LCC researcher Associate Professor Cameron Parsell is set to embark on a new longitudinal study focusing on Australia’s homelessness problem. According to the 2016 Australian Census, rates of homelessness have increased by 14% since 2011.

The Australian Homelessness Monitor, which aims to pinpoint the reasons behind the growing rates of homelessness in Australia, is primarily targeted at policymakers.

As Associate Professor Parsell argued in an interview with ABC Radio, “They [policymakers] normalise homelessness. They see homelessness as a social fact, and really it’s about spending our policy dollars better”.

The study is being run by Melbourne-based community organisation Launch Housing.
